When I went on my first mission trip to Jamaica in July 1994, I was told that missions would be in my blood. Whoever told me that was a smart person. Since Jamaica, I have been to Panama twice, Honduras, Bahamas, Gulfport, MS twice, and El Salvador. While I have truly enjoyed all of my mission trips, I love doing disaster relief work. I did this in Honduras from Hurricane Mitch, Gulfport, MS from Hurrican Katrina, and the Bahamas from their hurricanes in 2004. I hope to return to Gulfport, MS in January. I mainly do sheetrocking of ceilings in Gulfport. The picture above is my team working on a house about three blocks from the Mississippi in October 2006. This is where I first experienced hanging sheetrock. I enjoy working the food pantry at my church and varous other missions here in the Richmond area. Who says that that is a man’s job?

I am extremely interested in doing this type of volunteer work. I have been researching the trips to other countries but I don’t know how to filter them properly. There are so many that cost a lot.
When I moved back into the area a year ago, the plan was for me to take over my Grandfather’s construction company. He has taught me a little over the years but I received a crash course in home construction and learned that it is not a woman’s world.
You are truly inspiring and I would love to help out. I would really appreciate it if you can direct me to where I can volunteer.
